Wedding Photography - Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some commonly asked questions, if you have more questions, please feel free to Contact Me

What photography format(s) do you use and do you shoot in colour, black and white or both?

I shoot exclusively in colour using modern Professional Canon SLRs cameras with high quality Professional lenses. I currently have a Canon 5D Mk IV and a Canon 7D, for backup. This gives more flexibility in terms of creating interesting, varied photographs for you. By shooting in colour, any of your pictures can be reproduced in either black & white or colour. Typically I will produce a mix of both.

What’s your primary style, Traditional, Photo-journalistic, Creative etc?

I can cover all of these on the day. Typically I will aim to capture the all important wedding poses, a photo story of the day and mix some creative shots in where I can. During the consultation we can discuss your requirements, so that I can concentrate on your priorities. Its worth remembering that certain creative shots will require studio lighting, which can be intrusive.

A couple of tips:

  1. Have a clear idea of what you want or be ready to discuss ideas
  2. Remember you will want to look back at your pictures in years to come so if you want specific creative shots that are "on trend" today, make sure you also get some that will be timeless.

Am I able to get prints from my CD, DVD or USB stick?

Yes. While I typically no longer provide CDs or DVDs, due to lack of demand (I've switched over to USB sticks), the media I provide of your photographs will contain high-resolution images. These are yours to keep, copy, share, modify etc. The photographs are typically much higher quality than is required to obtain quality prints. The only restriction in your license is that you do not use them for commercial purposes.

Do you offer prints as well?

Wedding photography takes a lot more time than just the day taking pictures. I focus on providing my clients with a competitive package that includes everything they need to print their photos in whatever media they choose. However, I can provide printing, album and canvas services for an additional fee.

Do you mind other people taking pictures at the same time?

No I don't mind at all. However, remember you are paying me to do a professional job and since you will be able to share your photos with your guests anyway, they may just want to relax and enjoy the day. I may occasionally ask them to let me complete the shots I need first, as their flash may affect the quality of my work or cause you to be distracted.

Try not to stand with your elbows touching the sides of your body as it will make you look as wide as your elbows. By moving your elbows slightly away from your sides, you’ll create a gap between your body and your arms, which will draw attention to the curve of your waistline. If you are nervous, its likely that you will tense your shoulders, which will make them look narrow and your neck short. Try to make sure you relax your shoulders.

What area do you cover?

I am based in Leatherhead, Surrey and realistically will travel anywhere within 20 miles I will be happy to consider coverage outside this area. An additional fee for fuel may apply.

Why do you only take a booking fee up front and payment after the event? Most photographers want payment in advance!

I want you to be 100% happy with the results, so I wont ask for payment until you have seen the photos.

Can I create a custom package, if I want something different?

Yes - I can add hours to either package if you want. Please contact me to book a consultation and we can discuss your requirements.

How long have you been a wedding photographer?

I've been photographed over a 100 weddings and have been working professionally for over 6 years

Do you photograph events other than weddings?

Yes, I am happy to photograph any event on request. I love photographing parties too.

Are you insured?

I have public liability. If you or your venue would like to see my public liability certificate please just ask.

Will there be anyone else with you

Depending on the package chosen and the logistics of the venue, I sometimes bring an assistant to help me.

How many other events will you also photograph that day?

None - I tend to only photograph one wedding per day. Occasionally when two couples opt for my Registry Office only package, I will squeeze two in, as long as the logistics work.

What happens if my media is corrupted or I lose or damage it?

As soon as you get your USB stick you should copy the files to somewhere safe, either another computer a cloud provider. All electronic media will eventually degrade until it is no longer readable. I store all photographs on a resilient (RAID1) Disk array which is backed up regularly, however, you should not rely on my backup to protect your data.

How do I make a booking?

After a consultation to discuss your needs, If you decide you would like to book my services, I will send you a Booking Form and Contract to complete. I take a booking deposit of 25% of your overall package price. The outstanding balance is payable when you receive your USB stick.

I think I am one of the only wedding photographers not to take full payment in advance of the day.

Shopping Around?

Lastly.. If I was in your shoes, currently shopping around - here are some questions I'd be asking myself:

  1. Do I like this person? Do I get along with them or get a good feeling from them?
  2. Do I like their work? Is it well lit, focused, do the pictures tell the story of the day?
  3. Are there any hidden costs?
  4. How much experience do they have? - The more examples they can show the better!
